Close Call
Got a little scare yesterday and today. I was standing in line getting ready to go into Autzen Stadium to watch my beloved Ducks squeak out win against Arizona yesterday when I got a call from a number that I did not recognize. I answered and the man on the other end explained that he was brother so and so from the stake young men's presidency and that he wanted to meet with me this morning about an assignment with the stake young men. I said, "Sure, what time"? In my head I was thinking, "Ah, crap. I could sure use something else to require a lot of time and effort right now." I met with him this morning, nervous that I would be receiving a great deal of responsibility. He sat me down and said that my name had been submitted and approved by a number of people and that they would like to offer me an assignment, not a calling, within the stake young men's organization. I thought, "Sweet! I'm not a counselor or something like that". Then he extended me the assignment to be the stake young men's athletic director to organize and run the youth basketball league and possibly some summer sports. What a relief (Outside of individual wards dragging their feet about getting teams together). Now I can go and enjoy the rest of my Sunday.

Cam, very cool assignment. We were out to dinner at Red Robin the other night and ran into the guy that has been Stake Young Men's athletic director in our old stake. They kept inviting our ward to play - which we did - even after we were moved to another Stake. My point is - the guy was tremendous with the boys - and really made a connection with them. He and Max greeted each other like they were old friends....Of Course the scary part is that they released him from that calling and called him to be BISHOP of his ward. So don't get too comfortable!
Hey Cam, that sounds like an assignment right up your alley. I know how much you like coaching. However you are getting to the point that a much higher calling could be in the future, (reread Max2's comment), good luck with the athletics I'm sure you will magnify that as you would any other calling you have held to this point. Yes I would agree the Ducks sneaked away with another one. Being up 45-17 and winning as they did must have been a little scary,have a good week at school.
