On Saturd
ay my friends got together for a birthday dinner. My friend Wendy recreated a dinner we had on the Wharf in S
eattle last summer at The Crab Pot. The meal consisted of crab, clams, mussels, shrimp, potatoes, corn, sausage,
artichokes, and sea bass. Everything, but the sea bass was steamed together in the most
wonderful...er..ah.. I don't know what else to call it but a brine... and then poured out on the table. No plates allowed. It was the most tasty, messy, wonderfully delectable meal I've eaten in a long time. The 'no plates' rule was difficult for some of the attendees and quite a contradiction to the gold lame` table cloth. The dinner was finished up with a pumpkin cheesecake served in shell dishes. Yummy!

It looks like it was a great feast. Those are the best kind of meals - when all the rules are broken and everyone just digs in! I'm jealous of the crab. You can never be too thin, too rich, or have too much crab! Hope you had a great birthday! Love you. Max.
Sadly, the crab got left out of the brine. I've been spoiled by our little seafood restaurant near us that has everything ultra fresh. We ordered the clams, mussels and shrimp from the sea food restaurant. The crab was bought at Safeway and was obviously frozen. (Ach. That sounded snobby!) It could have used the brining...plus it was cold while everything else was warm. I've been thinking about doing something like this next time we get together in Sunriver. What's the chances that it would go over okay? xoxo
That was the thing I loved the very most about Louisiana: everything cooked together in the same pot and then just dumped on the table for you to eat. Yowza! They called it Boiled Shrimp but it sounds much more like "bulled shrimp".
